Starting a blog is like putting on a new pair of shoes. Continuing to blog is actually running the marathon.

Friday Roundup: Songs About Roses

Frightened Rabbit and I, standing in a line. Awkward.

Frightened Rabbit and I, standing in a line. Awkward.

Don’t be evil: Many thanks to AdPulp, a self-described “trade rag” I’ve long-enjoyed, for publishing my article on treating your freelance contractors a little more humanely. A real feather in my cap.

Where there’s smoke there’s ire: Even if you missed Nicole Cullen’s reading at Boise State on Thursday, don’t self-flagellate – just spend twenty minutes reading “Long Tom Lookout,” which was A) first published in The Idaho Review and B) selected for The Best American Short Stories 2014.

Putting things in perspective: Thinking lately of Christmas Island and, particularly, a brutal Longform article about immigration, refugees, and a horrific boat trip.

On repeat: Owl John, half of Frightened Rabbit’s lineup, wilting songs about Los Angeles, roses, and rage.

Next up: Season four of "Breaking Bad," holiday shopping, and penning a video script for a client in the trucking industry.
